Ingredients for making Long Beans / Karamani Poriyal

Long beans - 1/4 kg
Onion - 1
Mustard seeds - 1tsp.
Split urad dal - 2 tsp.
Sambar Powder - 1 tsp.
A pinch of turmeric powder.
Grated coconut - 1 tbsp. (optional)
Red Chillies - 2 nos.
A sprig of curry leaves

Method for making Long Beans/ Karamani Poriyal


1. Finely chop the long beans and onion.

2. Heat oil in a kadai add the mustard seeds and allow it to splutter next add the urad dal when the dal turns brown add the curry leaves.

3. Next add the finely chopped onions and saute till they become transparent.

4. Now add the chopped long beans and saute well.

5. Add salt, turmeric powder and sambar powder sprinkle some water and close it with a lid and cook in a medium flame.

6. It will take just 3 to 5 minutes for it to be cooked. Avoid overcooking to retain the green color.

7. After it is cooked add grated coconut (optional) and stir well.

Now the yummy healthy greeny long beans poriyal is ready for lunch.
