Oats Idli Recipe: Soft, Healthy and Easy Breakfast Without Fermentation

Ingredients for making oats idli/idly

1 cup oats
½ cup semolina or rava
½ cup curd
½–¾ cup water, as required
1 small carrot, grated
1 tablespoon coriander leaves, chopped
1 teaspoon ginger, finely chopped
1 green chilli, finely chopped
Salt, to taste
½ teaspoon baking soda  added just before steaming

For Tempering
1 teaspoon oil
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
½ teaspoon urad dal
½ teaspoon chana dal
A pinch of asafoetida
A few curry leaves

How to Make healthy Oats Idli

1. Dry-roast the oats in a kadai over medium heat until lightly golden and aromatic. Allow them to cool, then grind them into a fine powder.

2. Heat oil in the same kadai. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.

3. Add the ravaand roast for 2–3 minutes. Switch off the heat and allow it to cool.

4. In a bowl, combine the roasted oats powder, rava, curd, grated carrot, ginger, green chilli, coriander leaves, and salt.

5. Add water gradually to make a thick but pourable batter. Rest the batter for 15–20 minutes.

6. Add a little more water if needed. Just before steaming, mix in the baking soda gently.

7. Grease the idli moulds with oil and pour the batter into them.

8. Steam for 10–12 minutes. Allow the idlis to rest for a few minutes, then remove them using a spoon.

Serve hot with groundnut Chutney or idly milagai podi.
