Sweet Appam

Ingredients for making Sweet Appam Recipe

1 cup rice flour
½ cup grated jaggery
1 ripe banana
½ cup grated coconut
¼ teaspoon cardamom powder
A pinch of salt
½ teaspoon sesame seeds or cumin seeds, optional
Water, as needed
Oil or ghee, for frying

Method for making Sweet Appam Recipe

1. Melt the jaggery with 2–3 tablespoons of water. Strain it to remove any impurities and let it cool slightly.

2. Mash the banana in a bowl. Add the rice flour, grated coconut, cardamom powder, salt, and optional sesame or cumin seeds.

3. Pour in the jaggery syrup and mix well.

4. Add water little by little to make a thick, smooth batter. It should be thicker than dosa batter but soft enough to drop from a spoon.

5. Rest the batter for 15–20 minutes.

6. Heat oil or ghee in a paniyaram/appam pan. Fill each cavity about three-quarters full with batter.

7. Cook over low to medium heat until the bottoms turn golden brown. Turn and cook the other side.

8. Remove and drain on a paper towel.

Now inippu Paniyaram is ready for Pooja. For softer appams, add one extra ripe banana; for crispier edges, use a little more oil and cook them slightly longer.
