Ingredients for making Dried Peas Curry in Tamil Nadu Style

Dried white peas - 1 cup
Onion - 2
Tomatoes - 2
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tbsp.
Saunf - 1 tsp.
Cinnamon stick - 1 small
Cloves - 2
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Chilli powder - 1 tsp.
Green Chilli - 2
Garam masala - 1/2 tsp.
Coriander powder - 1 tbsp.
Turmeric Powder - 1  tsp
Oil - 2 tbsp.
Coriander leaves - a handful
Salt to taste

Method for making Peas Masala in Tamil Nadu Style

1. Soak the white peas overnight or for 6-8 hours in water. Pressure cook by adding enough water and salt for 4 to 5 whistles.

2. Chop the onions, tomatoes and slit the green chillies.

3. Heat oil in a kadai. Add in the saunf, cinnamon, and cloves.

4. Now add the finely chopped onions and saute till they turn golden brown.

5. Add in ginger garlic paste and mix well. Next add the chopped tomatoes and saute till it becomes mushy.

6. Cook till the oil separates.

7. Next add the in red chilli, turmeric, garam masala and coriander powders and mix well.

8. Add the required amount of salt.

9. Next add the cooked white peas and saute well till it gets blended with the masalas.

10. Saute well and cook in medium flame till you get a thick thokku like consistency.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with Dosa or Bread.or chapathi
