Poori Potato Masala | Poori Kizhangu in a Different Style | Side dish for Chapathi and Poori


Poori Potato Masala or Poori Kizhangu is one of the perfect and tasty side dish recipe which goes well with poori. Here I have tried a new method of cooking Poori Masala. It is a variation of the regular Potato masala. Boiled potatoes are mashed and blended with spices and capsicum to give a spicy masala taste. Try this Poori Kizhangu Recipe and enjoy.

Poori Potato Masala


Ingredients to make Poori Masala

Potato - 5 nos.
Capsicum - 1 no
Toamatoes - 1 no
Onions - 2 nos.
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp.
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp.
Chilli Powder - 1 tsp.
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp.
Salt as required
A sprig of curry leaves
Chopped coriander leaves - A handful

Method for making Poori Masala

1. Heat oil in a kadai, splutter the cumin seeds and mustard seeds, add split urad dal.

2. When the dal turns brown add chopped onions cut lenghtwise. Fry till they become transparent. Now add the curry leaves and saute well.

3. Next add thinly sliced capsicum (lengthwise) and tomatoes along with required salt and saute well.

4. Add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder and garam masala powder and mix well.

5. Mash the boiled potatoes with little water and then add this to the above mixture.

6. Mix the potatoes with the masala and allow this to boil for 5 minutes in a low flame.

7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with Pooris or chapathi.
