Ingredients for making Sorakkai Pappu Recipe

Bottle gourd - 1/4 kg
Toor dal - 1/2 cup
onion - 1
Tomato - 1
A handful of garlic pods
Green chillies - 2 nos
A pinch of turmeric powder
Chilly powder - 1 tsp.
Coriander powder - 1 tsp.
A pinch of hing
Salt to taste

For seasoning

2 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dal
1 tsp jeera
Red chillies - 2
A sprig of coriander leaves and curry leaves.

Preparation of Sorakkai Pappu Recipe

1. Wash and Peel the outer skin of Bottle gourd and chop them into fine pieces.

2. Wash the Toor dal in water and take this in a pressure cooker add the chopped bottle gourd/ sorakkai  with all the ingredients except given under seasoning, add 3 cups of water and cook for 3 whistles.

2. Heat oil in a kadai, splutter the mustard seeds followed by urad dal, jeera, red chillies and curry leaves. Add this to the sorakkai pappu in the cooker.

3. Mix well and allow to stand for 3 minutes.

4. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

Serve Andhra Special Sorakkai Paruppu with chapathi, rice or poori.
