Wheat Rava Idli | Godhumai Ravai Idli | Diabetic Diet Recipe

 Wheat Rava Idli is a simple easy to make healthy steamed South Indian breakfast recipe made using broken wheat, curd and grated carrots. These Samba Ravai Idli does not need any prior preparation like soaking and grinding. This will really be easy to prepare when you have sudden guests. This is a healthy breakfast which is ideal for diabetic people. The carrot gives a beautiful colour to the idli which attracts the kids. 

Wheat Rava Idli



Ingredients needed for making Wheat Rava Idli

Wheat Rava - 1 cup ( I used Double Horse wheat rava)
Curd - 1/2 cup
Grated Carrots - 1 cup
Cooking soda - A pinch
Salt as required
A sprig of curry leaves
Cashew nuts - 6-7 (break it )
Carrot - 2 (medium size)
Oil -1 tbsp

For the seasoning
Mustard - 1 tsp.
Asafoetida - a pinch
Urad dal - 2 tsp.
Bengal gram dal - 2 tsp.
Green chilli - 2 finely chopped
Ginger - 1 inch piece finely chopped
Curry leaves - few

How to make Wheat Rava idli

1. Chop the ginger, green chilli and curry leaves finely. Grate the carrots.

2. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds and allow this to splutter then add hing, urad dal, bengal gram dal, curry leaves, cashews, ginger and green chillies. Saute well for 2 minutes.



3. Next add broken wheat rava and roast it nicely for a few minutes. Allow this to cool.



4. Take a big vessel add the cup of curd and beat this without lumps, add salt and water and beat well.

5. Add the roasted contents in the kadai to the curd and mix well, add little water to get a idli batter consistency.

6. Mix well add grated carrots and then add the cooking soda. Allow it to stand for 10 minutes so that the rava will get  fully absorbed with the curd.


7. Grease the idli plates with gingely oil and pour the batter in the plates and steam cook for 10-15 minutes.






Serve this hot wheat Rava idli with coconut chutney or any chutney of your choice.
