Ingredients for making Kala Chana Gravy

Black Chana - 1 cup
Saunf - 1 tsp.
Cloves - 3 nos. 
Cardamom - 2 nos.
Cinnamon - 2
Onions - 2 nos
Tomatoes - 2 nos.
Green Chilly - 1
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp.
Sambar Podi - 1 tsp.
Red chilly powder - 1 tsp.
Coriander powder - 1 tsp.
Cumin Powder - 1 tsp.
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp.
Salt as required.
Oil as needed

Method for making Karuppu kadalai curry

1. Wash and soak the black chana in water for 8 hours or overnight.

2. Pressure cook the chana for four whistles in a cooker by adding salt and turmeric powder. 

3. Chop the onions and tomatoes and grind 1 onion and tomato to a smooth paste.

4. Heat oil in a kadai add saunf, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom. Now add 1 finely chopped onion and green chilly saute well for few minutes. 

5. Next add the ginger garlic paste fry till the raw smell disappears and then add the chopped tomatoes and saute well.

6. Add the turmeric powder, salt, red chilly powder and coriander powder and mix well.

7. Add the ground onion tomato mixture and saute well.

8. Now add the sambar podi and cumin powder saute well and add add 1 cup of water you can use the water used for cooking chana. 

9. When the mixture starts boiling add the cooked karuppu kadalai simmer the flame and cook for 10 minutes till you get a semi gravy consistency.

10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve Brown Chick peas Gravy with Appam, Dosa or Chapathi
