Ellu Kozhukkattai | Sesame Modak | Ganesh Chathurthi Recipes

 Kozhukattai is one of the traditional sweet dishes made using rice flour, sesame seeds and jaggery. This dish is one of the popular festival recipes made during Vinayaga Chaturthi. Kozhukattai is offered to Lord Ganesha on Ganesh Chaturthi and it is also given as prasadams in many Ganesh temples. Ellu Kozhukkattai

Ingredients to make Ellu Poorana Kozhukattai

Raw rice – 1 cup
Powdered jaggery- 1 cup
Sesame seeds / Ellu -1 cup
Cardomom - 2
Ghee -2 teaspoon
Gingely oil-1 tablespoon

Method for making Ellu Poorana Kozhukattai

1. Wash and Soak the raw rice for an hour, then dry this in a towel and grind it in a mixie to a powder form when it is dry.

2. Take a heavy bottomed vessel and boil some amount of water (1 cup of ground rice needs 2 cups of water approximately) and then add the ground rice, gingely oil and stir well with a ladle till you get a smooth ball like consistency.

3. Divide the dough into balls and close and keep aside.

4. Dry roast the sesame seeds until you get a nice aroma. Cool and then grind it to a fine powder.

5. Add the jaggery and cardamom powder and blend it well. 

6. Take the ball-sized dough pat it to a small cup and place the ellu pooranam and close it in the form of ball or into a semicircle.

7. Now place all the Kozhukattais over the white cloth in the idli cooker and steam cook for 5 to 10 minutes.

Now the Ellu Vella Kozhukattai is ready.
