Ginger Chutney | Allam Pachadi | Inji Chutney - Pesarattu Side dish


Ginger Chutney or Allam Pachadi is one of the popular Andhra Style chutney recipe which goes well with Idli, dosa and pesarattu. This is one of the best Side dish recipe for Andhra Pesarattu and Kancheepuram Idli.  Since ginger has got a pungent taste we add onions to neutralize and dals are added to increase the aroma.

Ingredients for making Ginger chutney

Onion – 2
Red chillies – 4 to 6 nos.
Ginger - 4 inch
Garlic – 3
A pinch of Asafoetida
Tamarind - small ball sized
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Urad dal - 1tbsp.
Chana dal - 1 tbsp.
Grated coconut - 2 tbsp. (optional)
A sprig of curry leaves
Salt as required.

Method  for making Ginger chutney

1. Heat oil and add the dals and saute till they become light brown. Now add the red chillies, chopped onions, ginger and garlic saute well till they become transparent. Add the tamarind and saute well.

2. You can add more ginger if you like the taste. Next add the grated coconut and switch off the flame.

3. Allow this to cool and then grind in a mixer along with salt.

4. Season with mustard seeds and curry leaves.
