Tasty Pongalam / Ponganam Dosa – Pongalam with leftover Idli Batter - Yummy Dosa Variety - Traditional South Indian Tiffin Recipe - Easy lunchbox Recipes

Pongalam is one of the traditional Breakfast recipes of Tamilnadu which is made using leftover or sour idli batter. If you want to make this with the fresh idli batter you need to add curd to get the sour taste. This is a very tasty and healthy tiffin which can be made easily. The taste of Rava, Maida, curd, onions, blended with the idli batter gives you a spicy sour and yummy taste which will be loved by people of all ages. This can even be packed for lunch along with the Idli Milagai Podi. Mix the idli milagai podi with gingely oil and just spread a thick layer on the Ponganam. Try this delicious pongalam and enjoy.

Pongalam Dosa


Ingredients for making Traditional Pongalam Recipe
Idli batter - 2 cups
Rava - 1/2 cup
Maida - 1 handful
2 green chililes chopped
A sprig of Curry leaves
1/2 cup chopped onions
2 tbsp channa dal
1 tsp. Mustard seeds
2 tbsp. Urad dal
1 tsp cumin seeds
Curd - 1/2 cup (use only for fresh batter)
Chopped Ginger - 1 tsp.
Salt as required
Oil as required

Method for making Pongalam Dosai
1. Heat oil in kadai, splutter the mustard seeds, fry the cumin, urad dal and channa dal till golden brown. Add the chopped onions, curry leaves and ginger and saute well.



2. Add this to the idli batter. Then add the rava, maida, salt and curd. Mix well and add little water to get a pouring consistency.

3. Heat a dosa tawa and pour a ladle of batter. Spread to form a circle. Add a tsp. of oil around the edges.


4. Flip over after a minute and cook till golden brown.



Yummy Pongalam dosai is ready to be served with Vegetable Saagu. You can also sprinkle Idli Milagai Podi to make it more spicy.
