Hotel Style Traditional Onion Chutney | Khara Vengaya Chutney

Onion Chutney is one of the popular side dish for Idli, dosa, Utappam, Adai and Upma. Here I am going to share a traditional hotel style onion chutney which tastes spicy. Onions are roughly chopped and ground with byadagi chillies with garlic. Read the recipe and try this spicy traditional chutney.

Hotel Onion Chutney

Ingredients needed for Onion Chutney 

Onions - 2 nos.

Garlic - 5 nos.

Byadagi Red chillies - 5 to 6 nos.

Powdered Jaggery - 1 tsp.

Grated coconut - 1/2 cup

Salt as required.

To temper

Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.

Split urad dal - 1 tsp.

A sprig of curry leaves.

Method for making Onion chutney

1. Chop the onions roughly and add this to the mixer.

2. Add the other ingredients red chillies, jaggery and coconut along with required amount of salt and grind to a smooth consistency. Transfer to a bowl.

3. You can add more jaggery if you like the sweet taste.

4. Heat oil in a tadka pan splutter the mustard seeds and add the urad dal and curry leaves. pour this to the chutney.

Hotel style spicy Onion Chutney is ready to be served with any South indian Tiffin.
