Chow Chow bath | Kesari bath served with Khara Bath | Karnataka recipes

Kesari bath is one of the popular sweet dishes of  Karnataka. Kesari bath is just similar to Tamil Nadu Rava kesari the difference is in Karnataka they use Chiroti Rava and the amount of sugar and ghee added for Rava kesari is more when compared to Kesari Bath.  The color, soft texture, odour and the taste of Kesari Bath will be loved by anyone. Kesari Bath is served with Khara Bath and Coconut Chutney and together it is called as Chow Chow bath which is a famous recipe of Karnataka. Try this yummy mouth watering Kesari bath and enjoy.

Ingredients for making Traditional Karnataka Kesari bath

Rava - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 3/4 cup
Water - 2 cups
Ghee - 1/4 cup
Cashew nuts - 6
Saffron a pinch
Warm Milk -  1/2 cup
Cardomom powder - 3 tsp
Kesar food color - a pinch

Procedure for making Tasty Kesari Bath

1. Roast the cashewnuts and dried grapes in 1 tsp of ghee and keep aside.

2. Soak the saffron in 1 tsp of warm milk.

3. Roast the rava in ghee till it becomes light brown or till you get a good aroma. Transfer this in a bowl.

4. Boil 2 cups of water, add 1/2 cup of boiled milk. Add this to the roasted rava and stir well without forming any lumps. Leave this for 5 minutes and then keep this on flame.

5. Now add sugar and kesari color. You will get a watery consistency. Stir well to avoid lumps

6. Next add the remaining ghee, cardamom powder, roasted nuts & soaked saffron.

7. Switch off the flame when the kesari gets thicker.


Serve Kesari Bath with Khara Bath and Coconut Chutney.
