Pudalangai poriyal is one of the easy to make poriyal recipe which has got high nutritive value. Ingredients for making Snake Gourd poriyal

Snake gourd - 3
Moong dal - A handful
Coconut gratings - 3 tbsp.
turmeric powder - 1 tsp.
Salt ass needed
Onion - 1

To temper
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Red chillies -2 nos.
A sprig of Curry leaves

Method for making Snake Gourd poriyal

1. Clean the snake gourds and then Scrap the outer skin.

2. Next cut the snake gourd vertically and remove the middle part.

3. Chop the pudalangai into thin small pieces.


4. Now take the chopped snake gourds in a big vessel and mix them with salt and moong dal.

5. Allow this to stand for 10 minutes. This process softens the pudalangai and you can see the contents have become watery.

6. Heat oil in a kadai, splutter the mustard seeds, add the urad dal, red chillies and curry leaves. Next add the finely chopped onions when it becomes transparent add the pudalangai moong dal mixture with enough salt and turmeric powder.

7. Saute the contents and close this with a lid and cook till the pudalangai becomes soft. Sprinkle water only if necessary as the snake gourd is rich in water content.


8. Once when it is cooked add the coconut gratings and stir well.



Now the healthy pudalangai poriyal is ready to be served with sambhar, rasam, kolambu, keerai, etc.
