Chettinad Tomato Kurma - Thakkali Kuruma - Easy to make Kurma - Tiffin Sidedish Recipes

Ingredients for making Tomato kurma

To grind
Khus khus - 2tsp.
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup.
Fried gram - 1 tbsp.
Cinnamon - 1/2 inch
green chillies -2 nos.
saunf - 1 tsp.
cloves - 2
Cashews - 4 (optional)

To crush
Ginger -  1/2 inch
Garlic pods - 4

Other ingredients
Tomatoes - 4 nos
Onions - 1 no.
Cloves - 2
Saunf - 1 tsp.
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.
A sprig of curry leaves
Green chillies - 1
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp.
Oil and salt as required.
Ghee - 1 tbsp.

Method for making Tomato Kurma

1. Soak khus khus and cashews in warm water for 10 minutes and grind this along with the ingredients given under to grind.

2. Chop the onions, tomatoes and slit the green chillies. Crush the garlic and ginger in a mortar and pestle.

3. Heat oil and ghee in a kadai add the mustard seeds, cloves and saunf. Add the onions, green chillies and curry leaves and saute till transparent followed by the ginger garlic paste.

4. Add the tomatoes and saute well for 7 to 8 minutes till the tomatoes become mashy.


5. Next add the ground paste, turmeric powder, salt and saute well.


6. Add the required amount of water, close with a lid and cook on a low flame for 15 minutes.

Tomato Kurma is ready to be served with Set dosai, idli, Appam, chapathi or poori.
