Ingredients needed for preparing Vazhaipoo Poriyal
Banana flower (vazhaipoo), cleaned and chopped
Onions - 2 nos.
Green chillies - 2 nos.
A sprig of Curry leaves
Grated coconut - 3 tbsp.
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Urad dal - 1 tsp.
A pinch of turmeric powder
Salt as needed
Oil as needed
Preparation
Method for Vazhaipoo Poriyal
1. Remove the outer petal of vazhaipoo. Separate the stamen and outer cover from the florets and chop the vazhaipoo into fine pieces and soak in water with a little butter milk or turmeric to prevent discoloration.

2. Heat oil in a kadai add the mustard seeds and allow it to splutter next add the urad dal and red chillies when the dal turns brown add the curry leaves.
3. Next add the finely chopped onions and green chillies and saute till they become transparent.
4. Drain the banana flower and add it to the pan and saute well.
5. Add salt and turmeric powder mix well, sprinkle water if needed and close it with a lid and cook in a medium flame.
6. It will take just 3 to 5 minutes for it to be cooked. Avoid overcooking.
7. After it is cooked add grated coconut and stir well.
