Navaratri is an Indian festival observed in honor of Goddess Durga. This year the Golu celebration, will begin on Monday September 22nd, 2025 and ends on October 2, 2025, with Vijayadashami. Golu involves setting up decorated dolls and figurines on steps to honor the divine forms of with the display typically taken down after the festival. Daily Poojas are performed and for 9 days 9 sundal varieties are prepared for Neiveidyam and offered to the guests. Sundal is one of the most popular healthy snack recipe which is offered as prasadam in most of the South Indian temples and also offered during poojas to God in almost all type of festivals. This is mainly prepared during Navratri festival, Vinayagar Chathurti, Puratasi month Saturdays, etc.

1. Kondaikadalai Sundal:
Chole or Chickpeas Sundal is one of the healthy and tasty recipe prepared on all special festivals. This is offered to the Goddess as neiveidyam on Navaratri festival. This is prepared as prasadam and given to the guests for Navarathri Golu. This can also be prepared as a healthy evening snack because it is rich in proteins. Good for growing kids and even for diabetic patients if they avoid coconut here in this recipe.
Ingredients for making Kondakadalai Sundal
1 cup kondakadalai
2 green Chillies
1/2 cup Grated Coconut
1/2 cup raw mango
A sprig of Curry leaves
A pinch hing
1 tsp Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Urad dal
Salt as Needed.
Method for making Kondakadalai Sundal
- Wash and soak the Channa in water overnight or for 6 to 8 hours.
- Pressure cook the channa with little salt till it becomes soft. Allow 4 to 5 whistles in cooker.
- Heat the oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds, add hing, curry leaves, finely chopped raw mango and green chillies and saute well, then add the grated coconut and saute well.
- Next add the cooked kondaikadalai and mix well with the fried contents.
- The delicious and yummy kondakadalai sundal is ready to be served for guests.
2. Gram Dhal Sundal:
This is one of the healthy Sundal varieties which can be prepared very quickly. This can be prepared during Navaratri and can be served to the guests. This sundal is easy because it does not need to be soaked in water overnight.
Ingredients needed for making Gram Dhal Sundal
Kadalai Paruppu - 1 CupGreen Chilli - 1
Red Chilli - 1
Salt - to Taste
Grated Cocunut - 1/2 cup
Grated Carrot - 1/2 cup
For Seasoning:
Oil - 1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
A sprig of curry leaves
A pinch of Asafoetida
Method for making Gram Dhal Sundal
1. Cook the Bengal gram dhal in a pressure cooker till it becomes soft.2. Heat oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds, add the curry leaves, green chillies and asafoetida.
3. Add the cooked gram dhal to the above mixture and saute well.
4. Now add the grated coconut and carrot and mix well.
Now the yummy Kadalai Parrupu Sundal is ready for Navrathri.
3. Karuppu Kondakadalai Sundal:
This karuppu kadalai sundal is good for diabetic people and also for people who want to lose their weight if done without coconut Try this and enjoy.

Ingredients for making Black Channa / Karuppu Kadalai Sundal
Black Channa - 3/4 cupUrad Dhal - 2 tsp.
Channa Dal - 1/2 tsp.
Red Chillies - 2
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Grated coconut - 1 tbsp.
A sprig of Curry Leaves
A pinch of Asafoetida
Salt as required.
Method for making Black Channa / Karuppu Kadalai Sundal
1. Soak channa overnight or atleast for 8 hours. Then pressure cook the channa adding a pinch of turmeric powder and required salt.
2. Dry roast the I tsp of Urad dal and channa dal along with 1 red chilli.
3. Next grind this along with a tbsp of grated coconut.
4. Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, urad dhal allow it to crackle. Then add a pinch of asafoetida, curry leaves and red chillies saute for a minute.
5. Next add the cooked channa and mix well.
6. Now add the ground mixture and saute well till it gets blended well with the sundal.
Now the Karuppu Kadalai Sundal is ready to be served with any variety rice recipe.
4. Karamani Sundal or Black Eyed Peas Sundal
One of the healthy and tasty evening special recipe good for diabetic people. This is offered to the Goddess as neiveidyam on Navaratri festival. 1 cup white Karamani
1 tsp. turmeric powder
2 red chillies
2 green chillies
1/2 cup Grated Coconut
1 tbsp. grated ginger
1/2 cup Raw mango
A sprig of Curry leaves
A pinch hing
1 tsp Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Urad dal
Salt as Needed.
Method for making Karamani Sundal
- Wash and soak the karamani in water overnight or for 6 to 8 hours.
- Pressure cook the karamani with little salt and turmeric powder till it becomes soft. Allow 2 to 3 whistles in cooker.
- Heat the oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds, add hing, curry leaves, grated ginger, finely chopped green chillies, finely chopped raw mango and red chillies and saute well, then add the grated coconut and saute well.
- Next add the cooked Karamani and mix well with the fried contents.
- The delicious and yummy Karamani sundal is ready to be served for guests.
5. Red Lobia / Black eyed peas / Karamani sundal
one of the healthy evening snack recipe good for people of all ages. I have given you a new version of Karamani sundal which can be taken as a evening snack or even during lunch time along with the meals. Boiled karamani is mixed with grated coconut and green chillies to make it more spicier and yummy.

Black eyed peas / Lobia / Red Karamani - 3/4 cup
Split Urad Dhal - 2 tsp.
Red Chillies - 2
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Grated Ginger - 2 tbsp.
Green Chillies - 2 nos.
Grated coconut - 1 tbsp.
A sprig of Curry Leaves
A pinch of turmeric powder
A pinch of Asafoetida
Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tbsp.
Salt as required.
Method for making Black eyed beans / Lobia / Karamani sundal
1. Soak Karamani / Lobia overnight or atleast for 3 hours. Then pressure cook adding a pinch of turmeric powder and required salt.
2. Heat oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, urad dhal allow it to crackle. Then add a pinch of asafoetida, curry leaves and red chillies saute for a minute.
3. Next add the green chillies, curry leaves, grated ginger and saute well.
4. Now add the cooked karamani and saute well till it gets blended well.
5. Now add the grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves saute well for a minute and switch off the flame.
Now the Karamani Sundal is ready to be served with any variety rice recipe.
6. Verkadalai Sundal or Peanut Sundal
One of the healthy and tasty recipe prepared as evening snack or on all special festivals. This is offered to the Goddess as neiveidyam on Navaratri festival. This is prepared as prasadam and given to the guests for Navarathri Golu. Good for growing kids and even for elderly people. Helps to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Ingredients for making Peanut Sundal
1 cup Raw peanut / Verkadalai2 Green Chillies
1/2 cup Grated Coconut
1/2 cup Raw mango
A sprig of Curry leaves
A pinch hing
1 tsp Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Urad dal
Salt as Needed.
Method for making Peanut Sundal
1. Wash and soak the raw peanuts in water for 3 hours or overnight.2. Pressure cook the peanuts with the required amount of salt and water for 3 to 5 whistles.
3. Heat the oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds, add hing, curry leaves, finely chopped raw mango and green chillies and saute well, then add the grated coconut and saute well.
4. Next add the boiled peanuts and mix well with the fried contents.
The delicious and yummy Peanut sundal is ready to be served for guests.
Variation: You can also replace raw mango with grated carrot.

1 cup Green Peas

Method for making Sweet Corn Sundal
1. Wash the sweet corn in water and steam cook this till it gets cooked.
2. Heat oil in apan, splutter the mustard seeds, add urad dal, red chilli, curry leaves and hing.
3. Add the cooked corn and mix well. Then add the required amount of salt, coriander seeds and pepper and mix well.
4. Next add the grated coconut and mix well.
Sweet corn sundal is ready to be served.
9. Green Moong dal Sundal
This can also be served as a evening snack. Try this and enjoy with your family.
Ingredients for making Green Moong dal Sundal
Green Moong dal - 1 Cup
Salt - to Taste
Grated Cocunut - 1 teaspoon
Grated Raw Mango - 1/2 cup
For Seasoning:
Oil - 1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Urad dhal - 1 tsp.
Red Chilli - 1
A sprig of Curry leaves
A pinch of Asafoetida
Method for making Green Moong dal Sundal
1. Wash the green gram dhal and soak in water for 4 hours. Pressure cook the soaked dhal with water for 3 whistles.
2. Heat oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds, add urad dal, red chilli
and fry till it becomes brown. Next add the curry leaves and a pinch of asafoetida.
3. To the above mixture add the cooked Green Moong dal and mix well.
4. Now add the grated cocunut and mango and saute well.
Now the tasty healthy Green Moong dal sundal is ready for Navrathri Kollu.
