Urad Dal Chutney | Ullutham Paruppu Chutney | Idly Dosa Chutney

Urad Dal Chutney is a flavorful spicy chutney made using urad dal, coconut and red chillies. Here the urad dal is roasted well till golden brown and the crunchiness and aroma of the urad dal makes the chutney more flavorful. This is an excellent side dish for idli and dosa.

Urad dal Chutney

Ingredients needed for making Urad Dal Chutney

Urad dal - 1/2 cup
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Red chillies - 5
A small piece of tamarind
Salt as needed

To Temper

Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
A sprig of curry leaves
A pinch of hing.

Method for making Urad Dal Chutney

1. Heat oil in a kadai add the urad dal and fry till golden brown.

2. Add the red chillies and saute for a minute.

3. Add the grated coconut and tamarind and saute well.

4. Switch off the flame and allow the ingredients to cool.

5. Transfer to a mixer and grind to a smooth consistency with salt.

6. Transfer this to serving bowl. Add the ingredients given under "To temper" and pour on top of chutney.

Now the nutritious aromatic Urad Dal Chutney is ready to be served with dosas and idlis.
