Delicious Coconut Halwa | Thengai Halwa Recipe

Coconut Halwa is a easy to make mouth watering Indian Sweet Recipe made during Diwali and Lakshmi Pooja. This is made using fresh grated coconut blended with milk and sugar. My mom makes this when we have lots of coconuts at home after pooja.  

Coconut Halwa

Ingredients needed for making Coconut Halwa

Grated Coconut - 1 cup
Milk - 1 cup
Sugar - 1/2 cup
Gram flour - 1 tbsp.
Cardamom powder - 1 tsp.
Ghee - 5 tbsp.
Condensed milk - 2 tbsp.
A pinch of saffron.

Method for making Coconut Halwa

1. Heat 2 tbsp. of ghee in a pan fry the gram flour till you get a nice aroma. Stir well.
2. Add the grated coconut and blend everything together for 2 minutes in a low flame.
3. Next add milk, allow this to boil and stir well continuously till it gets thicker.
4. At this stage add sugar and condensed milk and stir well for 3 minutes in medium flame.
5. Now add the cardamom powder, saffron and the remaining ghee and stir well.
6. Switch off the flame and garnish with cashews and almonds.
Now the tasty Coconut Halwa is ready to be served.
