Crispy Onion Bonda Recipe | Vengaya Bonda | Tea Kadai Bonda Recipe

Onion Bonda or Vengaya Bonda is one of the popular Roadside side Snack Recipe which is served along with tea in all Chennai tea shops. This is a easy to make snack recipe which also goes well as a lunch side dish. Vengaya Bonda is crisper on the outer part and soft and fluffy on the inner part. Vengaya Bonda



Ingredients for making Onion Bonda

Gram flour - 1/ 2 cup
Rice flour - 3 tbsp.
Maida - 1/2 cup
A pinch of cooking soda
Ghee - 1 tsp.
Salt as required
A spoon of ghee
Onions finely chopped lengthwise - 1 cup
Green chilli - 2 nos.
Ginger (finely chopped) - 1 tbsp.
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp.
A sprig of Curry leaves
A small bunch of Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
Water as needed
Oil for deep frying

Method for making Onion Bonda


1. Take a wide botommed bowl, mix cooking soda and ghee to make a creamy texture. This step is important as it gives fluffiness to the bonda.

2. Add lengthwise thinly chopped onions and mix well then add gram flour, rice flour, maida, red chilli powder, salt, green chillies, ginger, curry leaves, coriander leaves and combine everything by adding little water.

3. Now check the consistency it must look as a thick dosa batter.

4. Heat oil in a kadai and drop a ball size of the batter into the oil.

 

5. Fry this in medium flame till you get a golden brown colour.


Now the Hot Spicy Tea Kadai Bondas are ready to be served with Chutney or with any variety rice recipe.
