Sweet Susiyam | Suyyam | Suzhiyan Diwali Sweet Recipe

Sweet Suyyam or Susiyam is a traditional sweet dish made during festivals in Tamil Nadu. This is made using chana dal and jaggery stuffed inside maida or rice flour. It has a crispy outer texture and soft inner texture. You can also use green gram dal instead of chana dal.

Sweet Susiyam | Suyyam | Suzhiyan Diwali Sweet Recipe


Ingredients for making Sweet Suyyam 

1 cup Chana Dal
1 cup Jaggery
1/2 cup grated Coconut
1 tsp. cardamom powder
1/2 cup Maida
2 tbsp Rice flour
Oil as required
A pinch of Salt
Water as required.

Instructions for making Sweet Suyyam 


1. Cook channa dal / Kadalai paruppu in a pressure cooker for 4 whistles.

2. Mash the dal and add powdered jaggery, grated coconut, cardamom powder and cook until its thick. 

3. Allow it to cool and make medium sized balls out of the dal mixture. This is the stuffing or Poornam for Suyyam.

4. Make thick batter with Maida, rice flour, salt and water.

5. Heat oil in a kadai. Now dip the poornam ball in batter and fry until crispy.

Delicious Sweet Diwali Suyyam is ready to be served.
