Traditional Arcot Sweet Makkan Peda - Gulab Jamun stuffed with dry fruits and nuts - Diwali Festival Sweet Recipe

Makkan Peda is one of the delicious and famous sweet of North Arcot District in Tamilnadu. This is made using the normal ingredients we use for making Gulab Jamun the extra taste of this sweet is because of the stuffings with dry fruits and nuts. Try this Makkan Peda for this Diwali and enjoy.





Ingredients for making Makkan Peda Sweet Recipe


Gulab Jamun instant mix – 2 cups
Milk – 4 tbsp.
Cooking soda – 1/4 tsp
Sugar – 3 cups
Cardamom and sugar powder – 1/2 tsp
Almonds – 2 tbsp
Raisins – 1/4 cup
Broken cashew nuts – 2 tbsp
Broken pistachios – 2 tbsp
Oil – 2 and 1/2 cups

Method of Preparation of Makkan Peda


1. Mix the instant Gulab Jamun mix, cooking soda in a mixing bowl, knead this by adding little milk to form a soft dough.Let it stand for 15 minutes.

2. Cut the dry fruits into small pieces.

3. Make small balls out of the dough, make a small hole and fill the nuts and then close and flatten just like a cutlet.

4. Heat oil in a kadai and deep fry the pedas to golden brown in colour. Make sure that the flame must be medium.

5. Boil 3 cups of water in a pan and add the sugar, allow it to melt. It will take 10 minutes for the sugar syrup to form.

6. Remove the syrup from heat and drop the pedas. Allow it to stand for 5 hours

Now the Makkan Pedas are ready to be served.
