Spring Onion tomato Curry | Vengaya thal Tomato gravy

Spring Onion tomato Gravy is a flavorful spicy curry recipe which goes well with chapathi, poori and dosa. This can also be mixed with white rice and can be served with pappad. We usually chop and mix the spring onions in wheat flour to make chapathi or add this to any dal. Just try this spring onions tossed with spices and tangy tomatoes to get an amazingly tasty side dish / subzi recipe.

Ingredients for making Spring Onion tomato Masala

Spring onions - 1 bunch
Onions – 1
Tomatoes - 2
Green Chillies - 2
Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp.
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp.
Red Chilly powder – 1 tsp.
Coriander powder - 1 tsp.
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp.
Salt as needed
Fennelseeds – 1tsp.
Cloves – 2 nos.
A sprig of Curry leaves
Chopped Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp.
Oil as required.


Method for making Spring Onion tomato Masala

1. Wash the spring onion bunch with water and chop the white onion from the greens separately. 




2. Chop the white and green part finely and keep them separately. Chop the onions, tomatoes, and slit the green chillies.





3. Heat oil in a pan, add the fennel seeds and cloves. Add the curry leaves, chopped white onions and saute well. 

4. Add finely chopped onions, green chilly and ginger garlic paste and saute well till the onions become transparent.



5. Next add the tomatoes along with the required amount of salt and saute till the tomatoes become mushy.


6. Now add the turmeric powder, red chilly powder, garam masala powder and the coriander powder. Mix well and then add the 1/2 cup of water and close it with a lid and cook till the raw smell disappears.

7. Now add the chopped green part of spring onions and mix well. Cook this in a medium flame for 5 to 10 minutes till you get a gravy consistency.





Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with chapathi, dosa or even white rice.
