Traditional Karuveppilai chutney / Curry leaves Chutney - Healthy Sidedish for South Indian Breakfasts

Karuveppilai chutney is one of my favorite which I learnt from my mother. This is a very spicy healthy chutney which has got lots of health benefits which are as follows:
  • aids in digestion
  • relieves Cold and cough
  • good for pregnant and lactating women.
Try this chutney and it goes well with idli, Kancheepuram idli, dosa, etc.

Ingredients for making Karuveppillai chutney

Onion – 3
Curry leaves / Karuveppillai – 3 to 4 sprigs
Grated coconut – 1 cup
Tamarind – small lemon size
Ginger – ½ inch
Salt to taste
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Urud dal – 2 tbsp

Procedure for making Karuveppillai chutney

1. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds once it splutters, add urad dal and fry till brown.

2. Now add onion and sauté till transparent, then add the curry leaves, grated ginger and sauté for 2 minutes. Allow this to cool.

3. Now add the contents in a mixie along with grated coconut, tamarind and grind well adding little water.

4 Transfer this in a serving bowl you can add water if it is thick.

Karuveppillai chutney can be served with Kanchipuram idlis and Kal dosas.
