Parampariya Kothamalli Vengaya Thakkali Chutney - Coriander Onion Tomato Chutney - Traditional Idli Dosa Side dish Recipe

Malli Thakkali  chutney is one of the traditional Chutney Recipe which goes well with idli, dosa and even upma. Here we use a spicy powder made with coriander and sesame to enhance the flavor of chutney. Try this chutney and you will definitely eat more idli or dosa.

Kothamalli Vengaya Thakkali Chutney

 Ingredients needed for making Coriander Tomato Chutney

Onion – 2 medium

Tomatoes – 3 (chopped)

Coriander leaves – 1 cup loosely packed (leaf and stem)

Oil as required

Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

Urad dal – 2 tbsp

Coriander seeds - 1 tsp.

Sesame seeds - 1 tsp.

Red chilies – 3 or 4

Salt – to taste


Method for making Kothamalli Thakkali Chutney

1. Dry roast the coriander seeds and sesame seeds and powder them after the contents cool.

2. Heat the oil in a pan and then add the mustard seeds. Once the seeds splutter, add the red chilies and urad dal and fry until golden brown.

3. Now add the chopped onions and saute until translucent. Add the chopped tomatoes and coriander leaves and fry until the tomatoes become soft.

4.  Now add the powdered coriander seeds and sesame seeds mixture and the salt and mix well.

5. Turn off the flame and let the mixture cool down to room temperature. Now grind this to a smooth consistency adding very little water if needed.

The powder gives a nice flavor and aroma to the chutney.

Served this with any South Indian Tiffin Variety.
