Vengaya kara chutney

 

Ingredients for making Onion Kara chutney

Tomato – 2 nos.
Onion – 6 nos.
Red chillies – 4-6
Garlic – 3
A handful of coriander leaves (optional)
A handful of mint leaves (optional)
A pinch of Asafoetida
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Urad dal -  2 tbsp.
Gram dal - 2 tbsp.
A sprig of curry leaves
Salt as required.
A small piece of tamarind.

Method  for making onion kara chutney

1. Heat oil in a kadai, add the urad dal and gram dal and red chillies roast them till dal turns brown. 

2. Then add the chopped onions and garlic saute well till they become transparrent. Add the tomatoes and saute well till it gets blended with the onions.

3. Now add the tamarind, curry leaves, mint leaves and coriander leaves and saute well.

4.  Allow this to cool and then grind in a mixer along with salt.

3. Season with mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
